  • BIG toe motion. Hallux rigidus - the complete fusion of the first metatarsal phalangeal joint, is rare. But Hallux Limitus is becoming more and more prevalent with the effects that footwear have on our feet. 👣 Hallux Limitus is a degenerative condition in which the extension of the big toe becomes more and more limited. What does this mean? 👟Altered gait mechanics 👟Pain with running 👟Often associated with decreased ankle dorsiflexion 👟Continued loss of big toe dorsiflexion. 👣 Hallux limitus is different from a bunion in that the bony callus (osteoarthritis) that grows on the joint is on the dorsum (top) of the toe, not the side. 👣 Initial treatment for Hallux limitus includes mobilization of the big toe joint maually, soft tissue therapy of the surrounding musculature. However long term function of this toe should also include active mobilizations by the patient DAILY, such as controlled articular rotations ( #CARs) of the big toe joint and PAILs and RAILs of the big toe joint, other toes and ankle as per #functionalrangeconditioning protocols, to ensure that the newly found range of motion is accessible to the foot and ankle.   • Have you been doing crunches upon crunches for years and not seeing results? Have you fallen under the misconception that training your core with weight will develop ‘blocky,’ ‘chunky’ or ‘bulky’ abs? Well, I’m here to tell you that your abs are just like any other muscle in your body and in order to grow, they need to be CHALLENGED! Unfortunately, floor crunches are just not going to cut it, whether or not you want a deep-cut six pack or a shapely, defined core. • Your core plays a pivotal role in stabilizing your back, pelvic and hip musculature, as well as being a fundamental contributor to maintaining correct posture. Studies have shown weak core musculature to be one of the leading causes of chronic lower back pain. An underdeveloped core can also lead to improper form when training just about any other muscle group in the upper and lower extremity. From squats and deadlifts to overhead press and rows, a weak core may lead to alterations in form that lead to consequential muscle imbalances and even serious injury. • In order to effectively challenge and develop your abs and intrinsic core stabilizers, you need to incorporate a variety of exercise variations. Any environment that presents a challenge to maintaining balance through the course of an exercise is an incredible tool to use when training your core. Performing exercises using unstable environments (for example, V-ups on the Bosu ball) promotes enrichment of proprioception – your body’s ability to accurately sense position and movement. Unstable environments also promote development of advanced neuromuscular control and result in increased motor unit recruitment of muscle fibers within stabilizing muscle groups. • In order to build muscle, that muscle must first be torn. Your abs are a MUSCLE!! Thus, they require resistance in order to break down, rebuild and grow!!! Weighted ab exercises are a must if you are looking to create more shapely, well-defined abs. And no ladies, you’re not going to develop a big “bulky” manly core by simply including some resistance into your ab routine. Again, your abs are a muscle, and like other muscles, the process of hypertrophy and growth takes TIME! Cont’d ⬇️⬇

  • Kulcsár Győző halála kapcsán gondolkoztam el az én edzőimen. Az elsőt annyira szerettem, hogy amikor eltanácsolták a klubtól - ahol csak lányversenyzők voltak, és eligazolt egy olyanhoz, ahol meg csak fiúk -, apukám minden nap áthurcibált a városon, csak hogy vele gyakorolhassak. Mivel a versenyeztetésem nem volt megoldott a fiúklubban, vissza kellett térnem a korábbi egyesületembe. Semmi sem volt a régi, elveszítettem a biztonságérzetemet. A következő edzőm a pedagógia zsákutcája volt, rettegtem tőle. Apám a sarkára állt, mennem kellett. Az edző, aki egyszer pofon is vágott, később többször riportalanyom lett, amikor már újságíróként dolgoztam. A megbocsájtás művészetét akkor kezdtem ilyen magas szinten űzni... Később is volt több edzőm, de olyan, aki igazán hatott rám, egy sem. Senki nem ismerte fel a lényegemet. Felnőttkori sportolásomat egyedül kezdtem el, de két olyan edzővel összehozott a sors, akiktől sokat kaptam, Madarász Zsolti, egykori gildás kollégam, jóbarátom és Mogyi, az úszóedzőm. Nélkülük nem lennék a dolgok összetettségét ilyen mélyen firtató ember. Épp ezeken a dolgokon töprengtem tegnap, amikor csippant egyet a telefonom. Az egyik volt tanítványom írt. Életem egyik legszebb levelét kaptam. A semmiből indultunk több mint egy éve, és most 10 km-es futóversenyre készül. Azt mondja, két dolgot kapott tőlem: állóképességet és a pánik kezelésének hatékony útmutatóját. Már nem jár hozzám, ami óriási siker. Az én munkám ugyanis akkor jó, ha a harc megy nélkülem is. Függőségi viszonyt kialakítani hiba, viszont saját lábra állítani valakit, felvértezni az élet küzdelmeire és a saját értékeit megszerettetni vele - na ez a feladat! Amikor abbahagytam az edzősködést, tudtam, hogy ez hiányozni fog, igaz, a workshopokon van alkalmam “vigasztalódni”. Gyakran töprengek azon, hogy abból, amit átadok, mit kaptam másoktól. Olvasztótégely vagyok magam is, az én hitvallásomban benne van mindenki, aki értő figyelemmel fordult felém és nem sajnálta tőlem a bátorító szavakat. Valahogy így fonódik össze minden, és lesz a sok apró részletből egy nagy egész, így kap értelmet az elvesztegetettnek hitt idő és így lesz az élet lelki és testi pofonjaiból alkotó erő 🙏🏻
